RCET 006: Understanding Motor Specifications
Al Tejera discusses on this episode how to understand motor spec terminology like Kv, Rm, Io,weight, efficiency, thrust, stator dimensions, maximum amps and cell count. Practical and useful information to help you make informed decisions when selecting motors is the emphasis in this minimally technical explanation.
If you would like a download-able in depth article on the topic covered in this podcast we are making it available for any size donation from $1 on up. We hope this can help us partly cover the costs of producing these podcasts and would consider it as a tip jar telling us we are doing a good job. Thank you!

RCQT 003 George Hicks Shares the Secrets of Harrier Setup
This episode features our guest and dear friend, George Hicks, taking on a listener question from Bill Lairsey in Portland Maine. Bill asks for some setup techniques to minimize wing rock during harrier maneuvers. George answers the question and shows us how setup and several other key factors are critically linked to producing amazing harrier and elevator maneuvers.
George describes the proper way to perform the maneuvers, radio setup, airplane design attributes and flying techniques that will help you perform harrier maneuvers just like the pros.

RCQT 002: George Hicks Secret to learning the Anti-Torque Roll
George Hicks shares his secret technique to learning how to do an anti-torque roll. In this RC Quick Tips discussion George goes into depth giving an intuitive explanation on how to slowly test the unique characteristics of your plane to anticipate the abnormal tendencies of torque rolling in the opposite direction.
Don’t know how to hover or torque roll at all? Check out page 43 here in the Tensor 4D manual for George’s step by step direction on learning how to hover. This literally gave me the motivation to keep trying to learn this impressive maneuver.

RCET 004: Understanding Digital Servos
Al Tejera discusses what makes a servo “digital” and separates the “hype” from the truth. In this discussion he goes into depth giving an intuitive explanation on how the receiver signals the servo to turn. He goes into the core differences on how digital servos get their performance and why.
Listener Questions:
One of our listeners Jeff Maruschek won a free tiny Ultra-Micro Camcorder (see amazing videos)valued at $49.99 by writing in a 3 part question concerning optimum servo resolution, ESC resolution, and wants to know a procedure for adjusting travel, servo throws, and linkage ratios. Al Tejera gives a definitive answer along with a sound procedure for maximizing mechanical advantage and resolution.

RCET 003: MORE POWER from your Electric Motor
Al Tejera shows you how to use the magic of the power formula Watts = Volts X Amps to get more power (or more run time) from your electric motor. He discusses how changing pitch and diameter affect power and also how changes in battery voltage affects power and run-time.
Links:
A rule of thumb for power conversion of glow to electric motors is to simply multiply the engine displacement by 1000 or 2000 to get approximate watts for that size motor. Ex: 60 size engine = 0.6 cu in X 1000 = 600 Watts or 0.6 X 2000 = 1200 watts for the high end.
A simple rule of thumb for picking the proper motor power for specific size plane can be found here along with other useful ways to use a watt-meter

RCAP 002-Unedited: Indoor to Giant Scale with Mike McConville
This is the original unedited version of our interview with Mike McConville. In our first release of this show we removed a new product announcement made by Mike during the interview. We did this rather than delay the entire podcast because Horizon wanted to officially release the product in the US market at a later date. We can now release the unedited version. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Show Notes
We talk to Mike McConville model designer for Horizon Hobbies and world class aerobatic champion to find out what he has been up to. Mike announces a new product to be released shortly. Mike shares his tips for those entering Giant scale. He also explains how to optimize control throws for precision to 3D flying on the same plane. Mike also shares his techniques for using flight modes from foamies to IMAC. Mike then gives his recommendations for learning 3D . He discusses what he sees as the new 3D maneuvers. He also tells us his routine and goal setting for more effective practice for competition. Finally he shares one of his favorite maneuvers, the Knife Edge Pop/Slide.

RCET 002: Basics of Electronics – Part II
Al Tejera continues covering the basics in this second RC Electronics Podcast. Going a little further into DC electronics he discusses common battery ratings like mAh (milli-ampere-hour) and maximum C charge and discharge rates as applied to lithium polymer, Nickle Cadmium and Nickle Metal Hydride batteries.
Now that the basics are covered the show will feature a quick single electronics tip that will benefit anyone interested in RC. That means we won’t just be covering electric power systems but instead we will discuss a variety of topics like glow starters, servos, ignition systems, power distribution systems, speed controllers and more.
